“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” 2Peter 1: 3-4.
Where do we draw the strength to get through life’s challenges? How do we retain a sense of peace in the midst of our storms? Where do we get the strength to overcome areas of weakness in our lives?
The fact is that we cannot truly get through the ups and downs of life in-spite of our best efforts. And even when we seem to do, our sense of peace and “fulfillment” is always short-lived; and that sense of “something missing” always persists.
Human beings seem to be constantly chasing happiness and satisfaction in all manners of ways, yet if we are truly honest with ourselves, we are never truly fulfilled…
The strength to live through life’s challenges, the strength to live a life that pleases God, and the strength to overcome sin and weakness does not and cannot come from us – because ultimately, we are flawed, sinful and finite creatures. Creatures saved only through God’s grace, love and mercy.
The strength to get through life’s challenges, overcome sin and to live a life that honours God, can only come from one source, a divine source – Jesus Christ and Him alone.
When we attempt to live life through our own strength aside from Christ’s, the seams always come apart at the edge.
When we attempt to deal with life’s pressures and challenges, without Christ, our victories are short-lived and our sense of peace is quickly eroded.
It is only when we rely entirely on Him, that His power allows us to persevere in the face of our struggles. It is only when we rely on Him completely that we get a deep sense of peace that surpasses all understanding – even in the midst of our storms.
The things we chase in this life and our human attempts at securing happiness will never give us the deep sense of peace and fulfillment that Christ provides.
Even though everything around us may be falling apart, it is Christ’s divine power that allows us to stand firm. Even though we may face an uncertain future, keeping our eyes fixed upon Him, will always renew our sense of hope – because He will never leave us and neither will He forsake us.
There are those surrounded by all the material comforts of life and yet have no peace, fulfillment or happiness…
And then there are those whose world is falling apart, face pressures and an uncertain future… but in spite of all that is happening around them, they demonstrate a deep sense of peace that people around them cannot understand.
You know what the difference is – Jesus Christ. Because His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.
