Without Faith…

“And without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Hebrews 11:6

Without Faith we cannot truly live a life that pleases God because it means that instead of Him, we have made something else the central object of our faith, trust and source of strength. Not only is it impossible to please God without faith, but if we are to please him by faith a few important things must happen.

Firstly, we are to come to Him and when we come to Him, we must believe that He exists and we must believe that He rewards those who truly seek him with their mind, body and soul. We must seek Him not only as a means to an end to our own desires – but seek Him for who He is and what He has done for us. We must seek Him to know Him more so that we can love Him more and submit to His sovereign will.

A demonstration of faith and trust in God requires action on our side and we cannot do that unless we act by stepping towards Him in faith.

However, in coming to Him, we must do so believing that He is who He says He is and that He will do what He promises to do. In order words, in spite of how our circumstances may appear, we must come to God, trusting Him, completely because of who He is, what He has done and what He promises to do.

Sounds easy enough. However, the challenge is that unless you come to know God and come to know His character and His promises, you cannot truly have faith in Him and faith that He is in control.

You only truly come to trust someone you know intimately. Same with God. The only way to come to know Him, the manifestation of His love for us through Christ, and know His power and promises is by reading His word – the Bible and seeking His will through prayer. Through these, not only will we come to know God’s character intimately but we come to see overwhelming evidence of His character again and again in all our circumstances and situations.

Therefore, even if we are going through overwhelming challenges and God appears to be silent, if we continue to put our faith in Him, we can trust in the evidence of His character in His word. We can trust that He will remain to be who He is and that He will do what He has promised to do. But we can only continue to trust Him if we continue to know Him.

Though He may be silent, He is never far away. When we get to know Him more, we get to trust Him more. The more we trust God, the more we submit to His sovereign will and not ours. The more we trust Him, the more we realize that in spite of our circumstances His timing is always perfect and He will use all things to work together for our good.

However, if we sideline God and put our faith, trust and dependence in ourselves, its not that God is silent, He is there…He just wont move until we get out of the way, submit to Him and let Him take control.
