No Surprises

“Your eyes so my substance being yet unformed. And in your book, they all were written the days fashioned for me. When as yet if there were none of them.” Psalm 139:16

Not a single event in our lives catches God by surprise. Some of the things that happen to us may be sudden, tragic and catch us by complete surprise but not our God..because even before we were formed, all the days fashioned for us were laid out before Him, before any of them were…

So every joy, happiness, pain and trials we have had, are having and will have in future were laid out before God even before we came into this world.

Every possible experience, every possible scenario and every possible event that will occur in our lifetime was already seen by God, even before we were conceived.

This is both a humbling and a comforting thought. Humbling in that God’s wisdom is beyond comprehension and that His wisdom is available to us in the midst of our trials and as we navigate our lives, if we remained focused on Him and seek His direction – “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you”, James 1:5.

It is a comforting fact because if “all my days were laid out before God before any of those days were”, then it means that He knows the beginning of my life to the end and the end from the beginning. It means He alone knows the full picture and purpose of my life and the divine destiny He has ordained for my life.

It means that He alone understands how every event in my life, significant or minor, joyful or painful, fits into my divine destiny – a destiny only He has ordained for my life. It means that nothing that happens in my life catches God by surprise, and therefore I can trust Him to see me through and trust that somehow, this all fits into His greater plan and purpose for my life.

God never promised that we would live a trouble free life. He never said “come to Jesus and all your problems will be solved”. What He promises is to be with us in the midst of our challenges and see us through them, provided we continue to put our faith and trust in Him and look to Him alone for strength and wisdom. “When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them”, Psalm 91:15; And as Jeremiah 29:11 states, God promises that when we call upon him, He will listen to us.

Christ reminds us in John 16:33 that in this world we will have tribulation but that we must take courage because he has overcome the world. Also He reminds us in John 14: 27 that he gives us peace and not as the world gives us peace and that we should not let our hearts be troubled and should not be afraid.

And if Christ said it, all we need do is believe it.
