Whom Will You Serve

As the Bible says, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money” – Matthew 6:24.

Whoever or whatever we submit to as the “master” over our lives, will determine our spiritual path and eternal destiny.

If it is God, then we have peace in our Storms, we are content in the midst of lack, little becomes much and ultimately, when we leave this world, we will spend eternity with our Creator.

If the master of our lives is us, then we will still experience emptiness despite material success, we fail to understand the purpose and meaning of life, no amount of material things is ever enough and should we die without knowing Christ, we are destined to an eternity without God. A reality that holds an eternity of torment beyond description and pain beyond the imagination.

For the Bible makes it clear, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23

The verse encourages us that God has made available to us a gift of eternal life, through the death and the resurrection of his son Jesus Christ. God has offered us this gift as the ultimate manifestation and display of his love towards us and Jesus Christ willingly gave his life for us upon a cross even while we were a rebellious sinners wanted nothing to do with him. This gift of salvation that Jesus Christ offers now gives us hope of eternal life with God, when we depart from this world.

But we can only experience the gift, if we accept the gift. Unless we accept the gift, and accept Christ, then we can not partake in God’s plan of salvation and consequently have absolutely no hope when we leave this world.

The verse however warns us that the ultimate destination of a life without Christ Jesus no matter how accomplished the life may be, matter how successful the life may have been human standards, no matter how pleasurable and enjoyable that life we have been, unless Christ was at the centre of that life, the ultimate destiny of that soul is spiritual death and separation from God for all eternity.

An eternity without God need not be your destiny. God has made a way through His Son, Jesus. He is offering you a free gift of eternal life through His Son, Jesus. He alone can take you from darkness to light, bondage to freedom and a life of purpose, peace and strength no matter what comes your way.

Before you today are two choices – darkness or light, life or death, God or the World?

Whom will you serve?
